RCHL’s response to the Panorama documentary

On 31st May the BBC broadcast a Panorama documentary called ‘Undercover Care: The Abuse Exposed’ which showed the shocking abuse of vulnerable people in Winterbourne View, a private hospital in Bristol run by Castlebeck. The reaction from organisations like RCHL, and the umbrella bodies to which we belong, has been strong both in its condemnation of the practices but also in seeking to make sure positives come out of it.

We have added our name as a signatory to a letter sent to the Prime Minister on 20th June which lays out why the institutional model of care for vulnerable people is flawed and outdated, and that tried and tested methods of non-institutional support already exist.
